December 23, 2010. Grants totaling $34,332 under the Emergency Services Provider Fund were distributed to the Sable River Volunteer Fire Department towards the purchase of self contained breathing apparatuses; to Port Clyde Volunteer Fire Department towards the purchase of Jaws of Life; to Shag Harbour-Bear Point Volunteer Fire Department towards the purchase of self contained breathing apparatus; and to District 8 Volunteer Fire Department (Port LaTour) towards the purchase of pagers.

December 8, 2010. 
The Shelburne County Business Development Center Limited will receive $36,046 in funding from Economic and Rural Development towards the Climate Change Data Project.

December 1, 2010. 
The Town of Shelburne will receive funding up to $165,000 from Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations towards the Waterline Extension Project.

November 15, 2010.  Funding of more than $1.6 million is being invested to help seafood sector producers to diversify markets and enhance productivity.  The funding will also help the industry to keep fish stocks healthy and productive.  Shelburne County recipients were I. November 5, 2010. 
Support for boatbuilding in the form of financial support to Nova Trawler Company Ltd. and Dixon’s Marine Group to boost competitiveness and increase exports was announced.  The Boatbuilder’s Marketing Assistance Program helps boat builders with marketing materials and research, and to attend trade shows to grow exports.

November 1, 2010.  
Nova Scotians who work in the aquaculture sector can now apply for funding to help them increase the productivity and sustainability of the industry.  The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is investing $750,000 from the Community Development Trust Fund, originally set up by the federal government to help communities experiencing economic challenges.  For more information or to apply visit http://gov.ns.ca/fish/.  Deadline to apply is November 22, 2010.

October 29, 2010. 
Funding was provided to Municipal units in the Tri-Counties (Shelburne, Yarmouth and Digby) to provide work for Herring Plant Workers who were unable to secure sufficient work during the 2010 herring season.  In all, a total of 45 workers were provided with work on Municipal projects.

October 5, 2010.  Nova Scotia Energy Scholarship recipients were announced including Travis Bradley, Barrington Municipal High School.  The scholarship, valued at $10,000 is awarded to high school graduates pursuing energy studies at university.  Congratulations Travis!  For information on this scholarship and other programs for students visit http://www.gov.ns.ca/energy/careers-training/scholarship-program.asp.

June 18th, 2010. Health Promotion Grants under the Recreation Facility Development Program will give recreation facilities in Shelburne a boost. The Municipality of Shelburne received a $30,000 grant to make repairs to Tom Tigney Trail Bridge. The Shelburne & Area Minor Baseball Association received $4,000 to convert field to a baseball field. The Shelburne Lions Club received $9,660 to make repairs/upgrades to Shelburne Lion's community hall.

May 28th, 2010. Nova Scotian businesses and municipalities in Shelburne area are receiving Clean Air grants for projects that will help reduce greenhouse gases and air pollutants including a $56,526 grant to Mersey Tobeatic Research Centre to expand and retrofit a field station and $20,860 to the Town of Shelburne for upgrades to 10 municipal buildings based on energy audits.

May 11th, 2010. A unique pilot project involving wind energy development is set to begin for unicipality of the District of Shelburne. The money for the project will allow Shelburne to work with residents to identify locations in their communities where wind energy development is encouraged, discouraged or prohibited. The funding is also intended to increase public involvement around wind energy and educate Nova Scotians about the province's renewable energy and environmental goals.

March 24th, 2010. Land in Shelburne County was purchased today that moves us significantly closer to our provincial goal of protecting 12 per cent of Nova Scotia's land base by 2015.

January 5th, 2010. The economy of Shelburne is getting a boost with an investment to restore infrastructure at Shelburne Ship Repair. Improvements to the marine railway and wharf will allow the company to resume building and repairing ships. This will create long-term jobs in a strong marine sector for years to come.

December 23rd, 2009. Shelburne's seafood industry will continue to improve its competitiveness in the global marketplace with funding from the province. Seastar Seafoods, of Clarks Harbour, Shelburne County will use the funding to enhance productivity and for market diversification and technology. "Nova Scotia's seafood industry is a strong pillar of our rural coastal communities and contributes significantly to the provincial economy." - Sterling

December 17th, 2009. Shelburne is one of the communities in the province that will welcome a new doctor in the new year. The Department of Health continues to collaborate with the district health authorities and other partners on a number of initiatives to increase the number of doctors practicing in rural areas.

October 16th, 2009. The Town of Shelburne is getting a boost from the province to develop a festival and tourist attraction based on the history of loyalist longboats. The Department of Economic and Rural Development committed nearly $47,000 to the project through its Strategic Funding Initiatives program.

October 13th, 2009. Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau announced today, Oct. 13, $155,002 in funding to help Nova Scotia's boat building industry open new global markets, including Goreham's Marine 2000 Inc., of Woods Harbour, Shelburne County and Nova Trawler Company, Shelburne. "The long-term viability of boat building is important to our rural communities and the province's economy. Nova Scotia has a global reputation for boat building, which is based on a strong history. This funding assists in making a strong future for the industry." - Sterling

October 8th, 2009. Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister Sterling Belliveau announced funding for seafood processors to diversify markets, develop new products, improve productivity and product quality, and to meet consumer expectations about food sustainability. Funding recipients include Pierce Fisheries Ltd., Lockeport, Shelburne County, the N.S. Swordfish Association and N.S. Swordfish Harpoon Association and the Seafood Processors Association of N.S.

September 11th, 2009. Environment Minister Sterling Belliveau announced Clean Air projects that will help reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions. Funding will allow Lockeport and the town and municipality of Shelburne to conduct an energy inventory and audit of municipal infrastructure.
